Scholarship Application

The Ojai Valley Garden Club offers a scholarship to a local graduating high school student who will pursue higher education in a field of environmental studies.  The scholarship award is typically $2,000  and is offered to students graduating either from Nordhoff High School.

*   be graduating from Nordhoff High School in 2025

*   plan to attend a community college, four-year university or certification program, and

*   plan to pursue study for a career in environmental sciences, such as:

  • Horticulture/agriculture
  • Landscape architecture
  • Habitat Restoration
  • Water management
  • Botany
  • Native plant studies
  • Environmental studies (pest control)

Application MUST include:

  • One LETTER from a community member/past employer/instructor or counselor to validate your interest in environmental sciences.
  • Attach an ESSAY (400 words or less) describing your interests, your future goals and your financial needs (with special circumstances or hardships). Include a statement of why you wish to pursue a career in this field. THIS ESSAY WILL BE A MAJOR COMPONENT IN THE CONSIDERATION FOR THIS SCHOLARSHIP.
  • Mail your completed application with official transcript, letter and essay by MAY 1, 2024 to:

2024 Scholarship:  

2023 Scholarship:   Carolyn Moss was recently awarded a $2000 Scholarship from the Ojai Valley Garden Club. After Carolyn finishes life guarding this summer at our local beaches, she plans on moving to Santa Cruz and attending Cabrillo College. She is looking forward to a career in either Botany or Environmental Sustainability. Good luck, Carolyn!

Past Grant Recipients:  The 2017-2018 Scholarship of $3,000 went to Abigal (Abby) Alcantar.  Congratulations and best wishes in your studies.

2016 Ojai Valley Garden Club scholarship recipient:  Finn Matte
 
Finn, a Nordhoff graduate, is the OVGC scholarship recipient for 2016. He is planning on attending Santa Barbara City College in the fall and then transferring to UC Davis. He is an avid gardener with plans of a career in agriculture. Congratulations, Finn!
